What is the Cost and Profitability study about?

 

Using a web-based survey, the Business Research and Analysis Group (BRAG) is pleased to facilitate this comprehensive study that will look at the methods and practices of customer, product and service cost and profitability measurement by successful companies around the world.

 

 

Responding to increased global competition, organizations in all business sectors are focusing on determining the sources of cost, profit and sustainable competitiveness. Customer cost/profitability analysis and management are fundamental best practices for success in any industry and are critical components of enterprise performance management implementations. The objective of this study is to discover the best practices in cost and profitability measurement of successful organizations.

Potential key outcomes of this study

 

Identification of:

          How deeply within an organization costing and profitability is calculated

          Methods of allocations that are currently used by organizations

          How/if activity-based costing is being employed in organizations

          What, cost/profitability measurement system differences exist geographically and by industry

          Best practices in costing and profit measurement

 

 

 

 

 

Ultimately we hope to discover and share best practices from companies around the world that are successful in understanding their customer, product and service costs and are making sound business decisions based on the results.

 

 

 

What are the benefits to me?

 

 

Survey participants will receive access to all articles published by the BRAG team presenting findings from the study. Selected organizations that have best practices will have the opportunity to work with the BRAG team to present their success in various deliverables including presentations, articles, and possibly a book.

 

 

 

How long will the survey take?

 

 

The survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. There is no cost to participate.  The BRAG Costing and Profitability Study will run from May 31 – August 31, 2008. Preliminary findings will be available within 3 months of the close of the survey.

 

If requested, the supervisors will contact you via email when the preliminary findings are ready, and when any white papers resulting from this study are published.

Who can fill out the survey?

 

 

We need input from organizations that have considered, implemented, or are in the process of implementing a costing and/or profitability system. Respondents should have an understanding of, or have access to, information about the purpose of the system, the implementation process, how costs are allocated, and benefits or outcomes from the system.

 

If your organization does not currently have a costing and/or profitability system, part of the survey can be still be taken.

 

 

 

When will the results be available?

 

 

The study will run from May 31 – August 31, 2008. Preliminary findings will be available within 3 months of the close of the survey.

Notes:

 

 

All individual survey responses will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed without consent of the participant or organization.

 

Participants will not be able to directly retrieve or change their answers after submitting them. If an organization wishes to change an answer, they may contact one of the survey Supervisors, who will assist them.
